Urban Development Scenario in Maharashtra

 Urban Development Scenario in Maharashtra

Urbanization is key factor to look into when it comes on developmental aspects of cities. The urbanization mainly started in Maharashtra after 1991. Tier 1 cities are reportedly developed in comparison with tier-2 and tier-3 cities far from the pre-independence era. Coming to this developing cities the socio-economic as well as educational aspects played a crucial role in development. Coming to politics urban development department was not as much important as rural development department earlier up to 1991. The home, revenue and rural development was considered as most powerful department till that date. The rural population in last 3 decades consistently moving in nearby cities at Taluka place to seek good education for children, good medical facilities, employment and on some amount to get status of being urban superiority over rural.

It is quit obvious that at the end of next decade 90%  of the population will be living in urban area. This has made the Urban Development Ministry as most powerful ministry in Maharashtra Government. Every chief minister tries to retain Urban Development Department [UDD] towards himself.

The grassroot politics starts at the level of municipal council and corporation now-a-days. It replaced the status of Zilla Parishad  of being Mini-Mantralaya. This is happened due to paradigm shift of population towards urban civilization.
